Julia will investigate the non-thermal contribution to the generation of sound waves generated upon rapid and localized energy deposition in water. Key to this DFG funded thesis work under contract number SCHR 1205/3-1 are energy selected and spatially focused protons at LION. The ultrasound pulse that is generated in the Bragg peak will be imaged via an interferometric probe setup, a method that Julia has demonstrated in her Master thesis work in 2021.
