Sucessful ATLAS-Day 2022

05.07.2022

On Tuesday, 28th of June 2022, 67 students from both LMU and TUM joined the second ATLAS-Day after a long Covid break. First, the students between the second Bachelor semester and the last Master semester heard an introductory talk on the Atlas laser system by Prof. Stefan Karsch. This was followed by a short introduction of the other group leaders at CALA: Dr. Andreas Döpp, Prof. Jörg Schreiber and Prof. Peter Thirolf. Afterwards, the students had the opportunity to explore two different laser systems - Atlas and PFS  - within guided tours. Additionally, they had a chance to visit the experimental caves for electron acceleration (ETTF), proton acceleration (LION) and heavy ion acceleration (HF) as well as the Emmy-Noether-research lab for laser pulse diagnostics and the ZEUS laser. There was also a laser alignment challenge where a 3D printed trophy was handed to the winners.

The event was concluded by an informal poster session with drinks and pizza where the students could talk with the group leaders and PhD students about current research topics and possible Bachelor and Master projects.

We want to thank all the interested students for coming and everyone who helped in this event! It was a great success and we are looking forward to next year's event!
